Entr’Acte
Solo BFA Show at CSULB’s GatovW. Gallery 2017
This gallery was my first attempt at an interactive installation. Leaning into the idea of the Entr’Acte, or time between the show, this environment invited people in to spend time with each character in their inhabited area. Each of the five characters spent a day in the gallery, leaving their shoes as proof at the end of the day. This challenged the viewer with an ongoing and rapidly changing experience that had something different to expect with each visit.
Moving through the displays, you might have explored Indi Jones’ living space complete with photos of her ghost town and accompanied by the spirit of Walter’s Legacy, an assemblage in tribute to her dead car. You may have wandered to the kitchen for some of Edna’s handmade pie, taken a peek behind the curtain to see backstage moments of drag queens captured by Margarita MeowMix, or hung out watching stupid movies and playing with toys in DJ MoonShadow’s room. In the corner was a wedding arch with a stand-in bride for Amelie Lune to contemplate the ideas of marriage and confront her single self.
