About the Artist
Mozi Jones is a performance and sculpture artist who focuses her community-driven practice into interactive installations that merge art, theatricality, and music in a unique way that allows the viewer to become part of the artwork. Raised in a small mountain town in California by a musical family, Mozi draws inspiration from her stage experiences and eclectic tendencies to create inviting environments made of collected treasures and curated garbage. Though she has experience in many mediums such as sculpture, ceramics, assemblage, and photography, she prefers to call herself a “means-to-an-end artist”, valuing the overall experience of each piece more than the medium itself for the sake of a compelling and memorable art show.
Her work revolves around a cast of characters that create art from different perspectives, theatrical personas built on cultural archetypes and personal experiences. These alter-egos create spaces that often intersect with each other and change over time, engaging the audience in performances and leaving evidence behind to tell a story beyond their presence. They also focus on themes of spectacle, theatricality, and challenging cultural constructs.
Mozi Jones is from California, but she is currently living in Pullman, WA. She received her BFA in Photography from California State University Long Beach in 2017 and her MFA from Washington State University in 2024. She is currently teaching photography, hosting live music events in town, and occasionally taking her traveling circus on the road to participate in art shows throughout the Palouse. She has channeled her investment in the community into creating art experiences that invite the viewer to touch the stuff, curating galleries with local art collectives, and organising several music events and showcases for local musicians.
