The Circus of Self

Displayed at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art as part of the WSU MFA thesis exhibitions in 2024.

Welcome to the Circus of Self, an entirely interactive carnival themed show that encouraged interaction and prompted reflection on themes of attention, reward, awareness of self, and surveillance. Using call-to-action signage and inviting circus motifs, each piece beckons the viewer to engage in some way, to enter, step right up, turn the handle. The flagrant use of mirrors forces you to be a part of the work, and the sideshow character masks invite you to step into their shoes to view the world through their eyes, an experience that is only attainable when you say yes and choose to interact.
